Your Berryville, Virginia, outdoor HVAC unit needs care and protection if you want it to run efficiently. Unfortunately, weeds and vines can easily take over your outdoor unit. If you find vine tendrils snaking around or through your outdoor unit, take care of them immediately. If left unchecked, they can do irreversible damage to your HVAC system.
Spray the Vines With Weed Killer
For a big vine infestation, one option you have is to spray the vines with weed killer. The leaves and stems will absorb the chemicals and die off within a day or two. Once the vines are dead, they’re much easier to pull off the side of your house and off your outdoor unit.
When spraying, be careful that you do not spray any part of the outdoor unit with weed killer. Be especially careful to avoid spraying the internal components.
Dig Up the Roots
Once you’ve discovered the roots, use a spade to dig them up. If you don’t get the roots, the vines will come back eventually. You will need to do this to all the vines. Watch for electrical components connected to the unit.
Landscape the Area
After killing the vines and digging up their roots, treat around the area to ensure no more vines grow. Consider putting gravel on the ground around the HVAC system. Installing a fence or an awning over the HVAC system will protect it from the external elements. Plus, if vines do come back, hopefully, they’ll grow on the fence and not on the outdoor unit.
