When you or someone you love suffers from asthma, you may be highly tuned to the air outside, looking for potential triggers in the pollen, pollution, humidity, temperature, or whatever other circumstance you know to be troublesome — but have you considered your indoor air quality?

Most homes, especially newer ones, are sealed so tightly that little air gets through where it’s not supposed to. Closing up these small nooks helps your heating and cooling systems work more efficiently, especially in a place like Maryland with its humid summers and cold winters. However, without this natural ventilation, air gets trapped in your house, along with whatever troublesome particles it carries with it. It causes a real problem for asthma and allergy sufferers, but even people without breathing issues can experience prolonged colds and other unpleasantness from the indoor air.

Regular cleaning and maintenance help, but you may need an electronic air purifier for the best results, especially if you have one of the following:

Asthma

People with asthma or other breathing issues can benefit greatly from air purifiers, especially those with hay fever or chronic bronchitis. Small particles in the air like pollution and dust can aggravate symptoms and may even act as a trigger in some people. Electronic air filters remove those issues.

Allergies

People with allergies can also benefit from an electronic air filter. These devices clear the air of things like dust, which some people are allergic to, but they also zap other particles that can affect your allergies like grasses, mold, pollen, and dander.

Pets

Even if your family doesn’t have asthma or allergies, you may still want an electronic air filter if you have a pet. Your furry (or feathered) friend has substances on its fur and skin that can be bothersome to some people. It may not be an allergy, but maybe you have an itchy nose when you pet your dog. Installing an electronic air purifier helps that.
